International Oil spill Drill - April 2014

On April 2014 , Maagan Marine & Diving Works Ltd. in conjunction with the Marine and Coastal authority, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and all the companies and authorities who are a part of the national oil spill emergency plans in Haifa port area, conducted a national and international oil spill drill.

The exercise that lasted two days, and was held off the coast of Haifa and the North coast of Cyprus. The drill simulated an event at sea ( such as overturning of a drilling rig ) which resulted in the leakage of about 5,000 tons of crude oil to the sea.

According to the scenario , MAAGAN, (the largest company in Israel for combating marine pollution) the oil spill prevention contractor at the port of Haifa for the Israeli Ports Company ( IPC ) , were rushed to an emergency event due to oil spill which threatened to reach the northern coast of Israel . During the exercise, MAAGAN practiced the deployment of its offshore boom array, the deployment of skimmers for oil extraction in the open sea , Deployment of booms at "Shavit" anchorage and oil extraction, deployment of dispersing agent and the blockage of "Gadot" pier

Following the drill, a debriefing was carried out at the offices of the Department of Environment protection, in which the efficiency and professionalism of MAAGAN was emphasized during the exercise.
