Haifa port crane collapse

Project Overview

During the relocation of a crane at pier 2 at Haifa port, the crane collapsed and fell into the water. MAAGAN was selected contractor to carry out the salvage works of the crane. The fallen crane was an inactive 44 years old crane which was intended to be dismantled for scrap. No injuries or property damage occurred during the incident. The location where the crane fell into the water was sealed off and a perimeter was set, by the deployment of a boom to prevent the approach of vessels. At the request of the customer, an underwater preliminary survey was conducted to asses' current situation and future actions required for removing the sunken crane. Upon the client's approval, the crane was cut under water by MAAGAN's certified air supplied divers, and the parts were lifted one by one by the floating crane "David" to the pier so the parts can be investigated, to identify the cause of the cranes collapse and for future scrapping.
