As the Oil spill contractor of Israel's Haifa Port, Maagan was notified by the Israel Port Company (IPC), that a surprise drill has started, and that a 10-20ton spill has occurred at the "Shavit Harbor", thereafter a secondary event was initiated, simulating an oil IDC type spill at the southern chemical pier at Haifa port.
Upon the call of an oil spill drill at the "Shaivt Harbor", Maagan, immediately called all its dedicated oil spill personnel, and started to deploy a boom from the new onshore oil spill kit (located at the entrance of the "Shavit Harbor") in order to contain the spill. The Harbor was sealed, to ensure no leakage occurs beyond the harbor and thereafter the cleaning process has begun by the use of absorbent material and skimmers.
During the cleanup process, the IPC has announced a secondary incident at southern chemical pier, caused by a ship offloading oil. Maagan immediately initiated the deployment of a secondary boom to contain the second oil spill location. The oil spill was contained and thereafter the cleaning operation has started.
The debriefing indicated that the exercise was a success, and Arie Gavish, Haifa Port Director, noted that MAAGAN compnay - in overall was very well organized and trained for handling large marine pollution incidents. The execution level was good, including the meeting the deadlines.
